Our malted barley grain are perfect for standard expansions of spawn. With the hulls still present, they break up uniformly to help with even distribution of mushroom spawn media and have a good nutrient profile. The whole Barley takes only a little longer to colonise than the wheat, but it provides a great nutritional profile. Being malted, a sweet scent will be obvious upon opening the bag. The malting process releases sugars that help mycelium thrive. Our malting process takes at least three days to achieve the perfect start, but can continue while in storage until needed. The transparent bags are perfect for viewing the spawn and are not full, allowing easy manipulation and breaking up of the spawn. The air exchange filter allows oxygen in and carbon dioxide out while retaining moisture. The filter also reduces contamination, though it doesn't eliminate all spores, such as trichoderma from entering, it does reduce contamination to a large degree with good hygienic practice.
