Introduction

Psilocybe Mexicana has been used by the indigenous peoples of the Mexican peninsula for millennia for healing and divination. The Aztecs knew it as teonanácatl which means 'God Fungus' or food of the Gods.

Handling Wild Specimens

These are spore prints collected from wild specimens in their natural habitat, as such there will be contamination, bacterial and probably fungal. For this reason they are not prepared as spore syringes but rather as magic mushroom spores prints. These should be handled with time and care and thorough research is required.

Characteristics

Psilocybe Mexicana isn’t your typical flat, umbrella-shaped mushroom. Instead, it has a tall and slender stem with a small, cone-shaped cap on top. The cap looks a bit like a tiny bell or a pointed hat, often with a little bump (papilla) in the middle. When fresh, it’s a light golden-brown colour, and when it dries, it turns a pale tan or straw colour.

The stem is thin and delicate, usually white to off-white, and can get a little bluish if you handle it too much, which is a sign of its psilocybin content. Overall, it’s a petite and graceful mushroom, quite different from the stout, round ones you might picture when you think of mushrooms.

They are well know for forming sclerotia or 'truffles', sometimes called 'Philosopher's stones'. These are a defence or protective mechanism for many grassland species of magic mushroom to protect themselves from fires or other natural disasters, from where they can regenerate and fruit again.
