Our WBS are perfect for standard expansions of spawn. They break up uniformly to help with even distribution of mushroom spawn media. WBS grains have a good nutrient profile and water moisture profile, containing oat, barley, wheat, corn, red millet, canary seed and white millet seeds. Our WBS is also malted to release sugars to help mycelium thrive. The transparent bags are perfect for viewing the spawn and are not full, allowing easy manipulation and breaking up of the spawn. The air exchange filter allows oxygen in and carbon dioxide out while retaining moisture and reducing contamination.

We now have two kinds of filters for our grain bags. Our standard is the 50 micron filters. This has worked fine for us but some customers have requested 2 micron filter bags. The 2 micron filter reduces contamination, including the smallest such as trichoderma so largely stopping all contaminants, though this slows the growth of mycelium as oxygen exchange is reduced compared to our 50 micron bags.

If you have a HEPA filtered, positive pressure set up or a similar system where you can be sure that the air around the grain bags is hygenic, then the 50 micron bags will be better as the air exchange will be faster and growth of mycelium will be faster. However, if you are growing in your home without controlled air conditions, I would recommend the 2 micron bags. These can be selected in the Bag Weight selection options.
